When it comes to sleeping I am totally in love. I heart my bed. It is pretty dang comfy. Especially on my side. Which brings up a funny in my mind. How did it become "my side?"
How do you pick your side of the bed?
Since we got married, "my side" had changed with just about every place we have lived. It all depends on how the bed is positioned in the room. I have to sleep on the side closest to the door. Weird reason, too. You would think as a mom I would want to be on the side that is hardest for my kids to get to, making Hubby be the one to deal with all of the offspring issues. But, I learned early on that he is too heavy of a sleeper and I would end up awake anyway.
My sister has to sleep on the side that is closest to the door so she can use the facilities in the middle of the night without stubbing her toe on the end of the bed.
My Brother-in-law sleeps on the side closest to the door so he can "protect" his family.
The funny thing about this is that it really does effect how we complete the deed. Hubby and I were talking about this the other day. I am really a physically needy person. I love the rubbing, touching, massaging and stuff. It is a little awkward for him (or at least it was at first) when I would sleep on side right side of the bed (right side when you are in bed, left when you are looking at the bed). This means that his left hand does most of the work because his right hand is too close to my body to really be doing any of the work/play. The one good thing that has come from this (beside many fun/pleasurable nights) is that he is ambidextrous in bed. WOOHOO!
Which side do you sleep on and why?

You guys are in my head today. I posted a blog this morning about sleeping arrangements. :)
The ZenHusband and I were pleasantly surprised to find that our "sides" matched. From the foot of the bed, he's on the right and I'm on the left. Always. There's not particular rhyme or reason for it. But neither of us would be comfortable switching.
Creatures of habit, we.
Hmmm...I had to think about it, but the two places we have lived at hubby has slept closer to the door. Don't know why. Just has.
He ALWAYS sleeps closest to the door. That's how we roll, because I want a fighting chance to escape while he keeps the intruder distracted!
What?
Someone's got to think about the kids :)
I sleep on the side closest to the door too. But that's because my husband night stand looks like a bomb went off. He hides all his mess over on the side of the bed. So if I am on the side you see when you first walk into my room, you aren't shocked by the mess.
ZM- Isn't it nice that you 2 just mesh? What would ZH do if you jumped in on his side? Just curious.
Shelle- Brilliant thinking. You definitley should think about the kids if there is an intruder, unless of course there is no intruder. In which case your man is closer to the kids and can take care of them. Smart thinking!
Missy- Good thinking. It's all about hiding the mess! However, I just don't let people go in my room. Solves that problem.
We have switched back and forth. It actually depends on which side of the bed is closest to a bathroom in most cases. But, when the boys were real young, then I opted to sleep furthest away from the door. I needed my beauty sleep. (This also helped keep the number of children in our family to a minimum with the hubby getting up with them at night.)
It seems I have always been closest to the door - which is closest to the bathroom/kids, etc.
Here is what I always told my boys when they were little and came in our room. I would whisper "Go to daddys side of the bed, there is more room on his side." LOL They always went to his side. lol
I sleep closest to the bathroom. This started when I was pregnant with my third child and all I did was vomit and pee - all through the day and night. Now that side is "my side" of the bed.
Hub claims that he's always slept on the same side of the bed... but he did switch ONCE in one of our apartments... he sleeps closer to the airconditioner it turns out :)
Hi Jules...
We tend to switch sides depending on how we position our bed but somehow I always ended up on the side closest to the door. I like it that way because it's the closest to the bathroom for the nighttime potty breaks and the kitchen...I tend to get very thirsty at night.
And when I was pregnant, it was for the bathroom purpose too. Another reason is that I tend to feel claustrophobic when sleep on the side closest to the wall, don't know why that is though. We have one boy who tends to roam at nights so when he ventured into our room, I usually point him to the hubby's side of the bed then I don't have to worry about being crowded out of my side..lol..and if it gets too crowded for the hubby, then he has no choice but to get up and take the kid back to his bed...lol..yep, sneaky but I've done my waking for the babies since his excuse for not getting up night with the babies were he doesn't have the right equipment so when they get older and get into our bed, it's his turn to deal with it...
