Duke and I love going on the same types of vacations!
Sorta.
We go on cruises.
Why?
Because with 4 people in the family to please, cruises are the easiest way to make everyone happy at least SOME of the time.
- With a cruise you don't have to drive and believe me, you don't want to be out of town with Duke trying to find a place with a map.
- You don't have to cook :)
- They have babysitters
- Every day you wake up at a new location.
- While ashore one day you can take turns doing just about anything you can dream of.I like culture, Duke likes the beach, the boys like to barter at flea markets and do the adventure excursions. Everyone gets a little of what they love and everyone is HAPPY!
Plus we all love to watch the drunk people make asses out of themselves! We sit on the lawn chairs and use it as a learning lesson for the boys as to why we choose not to publicly intoxicate ourselves...
So every winter, rest assured you will find "the Chief crew" boarding a vessel headed for the Caribbean.
Check me OUT! at Macaroni Kid! Especially if you are a Utah peep! It will be the greatest discovery you will make all year! subscribe to win tons of amazing stuff!
Chief also blogs on her personal blog :

You have to tell me which cruise line/destination is your favorite. We are looking at doing one for next April. We did Disney last year and loved it (our first) but are torn on either Royal Caribbean or Norwegians new Epic boat.
Or skipping it all together and going to a Beaches type place. I don't care so long as its warm and there's a beach!
We are taking our first cruise this year in Sept, porting out of Galveston, Western Caribean, I'm so excited, the ship is one of Carnivals, not my first pick but it's all that ports out of Galveston and well we're here in TX so that's where we go. It'll be great though.
I have to admit to being a cruise virgin... with 5 kids it just seems a little out of our price range and we're not quite to the point where we can just take off and leave them... although I'm looking forward to it!!!
OMGosh! Cruises are the best for sure! Well that or all in-clusive resorts. We have only done a cruise, but never with our kids. Like you guys, I'm thinking we should make it an annual thing... Thanks chief! Great post!
We have always gone carnival... mostly for the Kids Club.
We are going to try a different line this winter... just for fun. The kids are older and have outgrown the kids club on Carnival. Its time for more adult type cruising!
I'm like T...total cruise virgin here and pretty much for the same reasons she has. Of course, I'm embarrassed to say that I do not care to be out the open sea, never can trust what could go wrong there...yep, a real embarrassing thing for an islander to have since I was born and raised on an islander so therefore, the sea should pretty much be my playground.
So I guess maybe it's a good thing I'm residing where I am right now because there are still places on this rock we haven't explored yet so that should pretty much be our vacation spot also..LOL.
It's a good thing that your family all enjoy your cruises and are able to do things you love while doing it.
One Day.....
Sounds good to me! I might have to check that out. Reckon I can go and be back before the bride knows I'm gone?
I wrote off cruises after I was nearly terminally sea sick on the first one I ever took. It would have been fun if I hadn't had my face stuck in the toilet the whole time we were on the boat! Ugh.
I did get engaged on that boat ride though... between my trips to the john.
ANJ!!! You definitely need to be an unvirgin cruise girl and so does T! My goodness!!!
Hands to war--so sad :( next time all inclusive almost the same thing, but no sea sickness :)
Love cruises! Been on 6! With kids or without its all good!
As far as sea sickness - you got to take that dramimine a day or two BEFORE you step foot on the ship. Have it alreaady in your system, I promise you wont have a problem.
Plenty for everyone to do. Great for extended famiy trips - with everyone - but still able to do "your own thing."
Sorry for the typos. grrr
i think id get cabin fever! I like to know i can go disapear if it all gets too much, im afraid the kids and hubby might find me on a ship
Oh heels - A TON of places to hide if need be. First most cruises dock early morning and you get off the ship to see whatever you want.
But if it is a sea day - the spa, the adult pool, tons of hidden deck areas, the library, the art auction, the cooking class, the dance class, bingo, the casino, one of the 10-13 bars, plenty of places to get away. Or you just put your kids in the kids club - and they wont be going anywhere! LOL
